What is Writers’ Toolbox?
Writers’ Toolbox is an incredible, accessible opportunity for emerging writers! It is a six month programme focusing on writing for stage and screen ran by BAFTA winner Mark Catley and imagine if’s Artistic Director, Chesca Joy. Writers’ Toolbox will support you to begin working on a new production as well as giving you the tools to secure funding to produce your own work. Writers’ Toolbox will support emerging writers who have distinctive voices and incredible stories to tell.
Mark Catley is an award-winning writer for screen, playwright, script consultant and TV producer. He has been working with imagine if since its inception in 2015 as their dramaturg.
Chesca Joy is the founding Artistic Director and CEO of imagine if. She is also a writer, actor, producer and social change maker and has worked across the UK as well as in India and America.
What does Writers’ Toolbox include?
– A 2 hour writing/producing workshop every 2 weeks over a six month period
– A private sharing of your work to industry professionals
– Follow up mentoring
– Yearly meet-ups for the group to encourage on-going support and development
– Safe and friendly environment to try out your ideas
– Completely free access to the Writers’ Toolbox programme (Worth over £1000)
– The real living wage paid to you to attend each workshop
– Your travel costs covered (in West Yorkshire)
– Your childcare costs covered during workshop times
– Emerging writers
– Identify as female and working class
– Aged 25 or over
– Based in West Yorkshire (or originally from here and able to travel for the course)
– Unique voices with stories to tell
– Able to attend each workshop

–Writers’ Toolbox will run every second week on an evening from 18:15-20:30 which includes a break
-Workshops will run from March – October 2023
-Location for the workshops are TBC, however they will be held in Leeds
